The department of English has five faculty members, Prof. Ranjana Srivastava, Associate Prof. Seema Nigam, Associate Prof. Rashmi Dubey, Assistant Prof. CP Singh and Assistant Prof. Saumya Deep. All the members are well qualified and have twenty research papers, ten books and three chapters of books to their credits. The faculty members continually attend international /national seminars, symposiums and workshops to keep them updated with the trends and techniques of literature and language. The department organizes free competitive classes and remedial classes to resolve the issues of the students. To develop confidence, environment consciousness and social sensibility the department organizes quizzes, debates, social service programme, plantation drives, poster making competition, essay writing and oration competition in every academic session. Dr Seema Nigam & Dr Rashmi Dubey have been facilitated with various awards such as Green Mentor, Prayawaran Prahari, Maa Bharti award and Shiskhak Samman award. Some members of the department was also appointed as key note speakers in various college in literary activities. The department continually organizes various literary social and behavioral activities in every academic session.

History of the Department

D.B.S. (PG) College Govind Nagar, was founded in the southern Kanpur in the year 1959 to cater the needs of urban and rural students aspiring to be graduate and post graduate, keeping this in view the college was founded with PG courses of English, this shows farsightedness of the founder of the college, Honorable Dr. Virendra Swaroop ji. His generous act was to contribute to develop English language in newly freed nation. English language can not be under-estimated as it has broken all the barriers of its origin country and has become global language. At the time of the establishment of the college, the first HOD of English was Shri H. S. Mishra. Under his able guidance, the department of English organized several seminars, workshops, and symposiums.
