Department of Library and Information Science at DBS PG College Govind is running from 2003-04 . The main aim of this course to impart the quality education in the field of Library Science through effective teaching and practical training. The department runs under the School of Arts and Humanities. The Department currently offers one-year Bachelor’s Programme in Library Science. Students from diverse backgrounds from different parts of India can apply for the course. The students are welcome those have an interest in entering and progressing within the LIS profession.

Information communication technology helped libraries and information centers to create and come up with new strategies and explore opportunities for sharing, managing and organizing information and also community to encourage intellectual exploration. Today in the changing environment, it is a need for the skilled library professionals having a degree in LIS which is amalgamation of technical, managerial and an understanding mindset of the changing knowledge society in this digital era. The course is designed and prepared, keeping in mind the current scenario of higher education in the field of LIS in India. The Department is working to produce well equipped manpower by offering a strong theoretical foundation as well as hands on practical classes, seminars, presentations, curriculum stipulated practical visit to reputed libraries of India, and internship program in the various libraries and information centers in India.

Program Objectives The offered programs by the Department of Library Science aims- 1. Provides students with a strong, well-rounded education through a curriculum that reflects the profession's immediate and long-range needs and prepares students to be leaders in a changing field. 2. Describe the historical and theoretical foundations of information science. 3. Apply ethics to every aspect of the practice of the profession. 4. promotes excellence in research contributions to the base of theoretical and practical knowledge in library and information science. 5. encourages students, faculty members, and alumni to shape the future of the profession by filling key roles in organizations involved in all aspects of the information cycle.
