The SOUL 2.0 consists of the following modules. Each module has further been divided into sub-modules to cater to its functional requirements:

  • Acquisition
  • Catalogue
  • Circulation
  • OPAC
  • Series Control
  • Administration

OPAC – Online public access Catalogue, also known as OPAC, is an online database of all the resources and materials held by Our Library and accessed via Computer or other electronic device. To make the book search faster & convenient, DVSLIC used SOUL software. Users can search their desired file by entering various fields such as- Title, Author, Subject, publisher, ISBN etc.

Circulation- Circulation which was manual in DVSLIC before 2008 has now fully automated. Circulation module allows us to create/edit/delete/search user records, renew membership and also establish relationship between the user and resources by creating transaction records such as issue, return, renew and get different routine and management reports. Barcode technology gives perfection and speed at the circulation section.

Reference service- Reference service means providing assistance to the users in the use of library and their collections. It is the process of helping readers to identify sources of information in response to a particular query, interest, problem or assignment to be done.

Reference service has three major aspects or service technique-

  1. Information service which consists of findings needed information for the user or assisting the user in finding such information.
  2. Instruction in library use, consisting of helping users learns the skill they need to find and use library material.
  3. Guidance in which users are assisted in choosing library material appropriate to their educational, informational, or recreational needs.

Current awareness service (CAS) – The purpose of current awareness service is to inform the users about new acquisitions in their libraries. A CAS is a way of letting users knows about material that has been newly received in the resource centre. CAS includes –

  1. Current awareness bulletins
  2. Selective dissemination of information
  3. Circulating documents
  4. Displaying newly acquired materials and using notice boards.

Selective dissemination of information (SDI)-

Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) service is a type of “alerting service” meant for individual users, mainly specialists, which is exclusively restricted to the area of interest of the user concerned. An SDI system is mainly based on two types of profiles—users’ profiles and document profiles—which are matched to decide about the relevance of any new document for an individual user.

Inter Library Loan and Library Resource Sharing: In the age of information explosion, no library however big or rich, able to satisfy all the needs of its users due to tremendous number document as well as information published every moment’s.

To solve the problems of information explosion, the concept of resource sharing has been developed. Our Library provides Inter Library Loan facility to our users. Our Library is a member of Library Network of more than 8900 Libraries.

DELNET – Developing Library Network New Delhi is a major Resource Sharing Library Network in India connecting more than 8900 Libraries in India and 24 Libraries of other countries. Our Library is the active member of DELNET.

DELNET has developed Discovery Portal, Knowledge Gainer Portal and Vision Portal (Video Lectures). The portals have sophisticated features for advance knowledge discovery.

DELNET offers access to more than four crore records of books, periodicals, articles, theses and dissertations, video-recordings, sound-recordings and other databases.
